My 14 y.o. grandson ( I am his guardian) Is on the autism spectrum. He will not leave the house, since March 2022, and do has transitioned to on/ line schooling, as all video for therapy and medical appts. This presentation is very informative, I have never heard of the majority of these resources. Does anyone have suggestions for figuring out what an individual actually is able to accomplish, either academically or physically? We see many avoidance behaviors when presented tasks, both academic and physical. Thank you for all the information discussed and shared.

My autistic son is 19. He was not very social and stayed in his room all day, didn't make eye contact for more than a second, had problems with textures and had some motor skill problems as well as developmental disabilities. 4 months ago we all switched to a carnivore way of eating and he has just come alive. He joins and starts conversations, he looks at you when you when you talk to him, he started hugging us, says 'thank you,' he asked for a bicycle and now rides it down to the park everyday, does household chores without being asked, and eats foods he used to avoid because of the textures. A couple weeks ago, he inquired about getting a job. We been absolutely astounded by his changes in just 4 months. We're looking forward to seeing more improvement in the months to come.

Me and his behavioral therapist been doing potty training since he was 4 and we set timers and only reward a good snack(that he rarely have) after going potty. I been putting him on underwear and we are still having issues every day. Also its been consistent as well. We do the timers every 15 mins.

Not always asking will get you the real answer. When I was younger, I was really high risk.. I never told anyone, because I was scared they would get mad at me. Along with the fact I got threatened to be thrown in the psych ward(I’ve been many times, even went to Seattle children’s before.). So, asking might not help. I’d suggest just giving tools to help them get better, such as counseling. Take away sharps and things that can be used to harm themselves. Get a lock box. Those work best. Always be open. Don’t get mad at them for expressing emotions. Help them find a healthy way to let them out. Idk these are just suggestions. I’ve struggled with suicidal ideation my whole life. These are just things that I would think helps a bit. Just being open and creating a relationship where they feel safe and like they can trust you. I never could trust my parents. So. Yeah, if you want to help them. Let it be known, but don’t smother them.

Thanks for putting up this video about Rebecca Bird's mural. It is the most impressive artwork I have ever seen. It is incredibly powerful and moving. It is overwhelming to see, like the Grand Canyon. The feat of its being made by one human would be enough to blow minds BUT! it is so much more... making visible the spirit of love and generosity which animated these scientists to work on the behalf of children, it is a monument to kindness.

It is so nice that we are not as practice hiding everything from children but rahter explaining what is appropriate. So many many children turn away from medical care as adults due to the older policies of hiding everything from kids as though they were too stupid to know something happened. The unknown is more scary than anything

Such an outstanding piece, so wide-ranging and detailed in topics and elements. I am particularly impressed by the conceptual and technical craftsmanship it must have taken to handle a mural of such dimension. Moreover, an inspiring example of a vital and meaningful connection between art and social life!

Just an absolutely incredible depth to this work. The scale is awe striking, but what really blows me away is the detail she put into all the stories within this mural... Just like children they're all significant and worthy of love, there is not one detail to tell their story left without the most profound care. Thank you Rebecca for this gift to humanity!

Seattle holds a new, wonderful treasure of almost shocking grandeur in the mural created by Rebecca Bird and commissioned by the Seattle Children's hospital. I wonder if people are even broadly aware of it yet? This masterpiece will forever demand my return. It is a fitting and deeply beautiful monument to the incredible work of the researchers at the facility, the outcome of which the entire world will benefit from. Stand there, view the work, then close your eyes and imagine yourself as mother or father to a child lifted from genetic illness by the work done here. Now open your eyes and look again.

This video captures the true pain of the refeeding process. It took me two years to stabilize weight, and now I am working on intuitive eating. Every day in refeeding it feels like you are going against law, against everything you know. You come out a different person, and it is the scariest thing I have ever gone through. It is also thd best thing I have gone through. I truly found myself for the first time and formed bonds with others who shared my pain. Thank you to Seattle Children's hospital for this video, and thank you for bringing so much awareness.
